UN AMOR
Special Features: East Coast Premiere
Rundown by city life and a challenging job translating for African immigrants, foolhardy 30-something Natalia (Laia Costa, LULLABY, VICTORIA) decides to flee to the countryside. She rents a broken-down house from a hostile landlord who refuses to fix it up but nevertheless sets out to build a new life. She finds it tough to make friends with the wary locals, her only companion a mangy mutt that came with the house. Desperate to fix the leaks in the roof, she gives into a proposition from a neighbor known to the villagers as "the German" (Hovik Keuchkerian, MONEY HEIST), a mountain of a man who will make the repairs in exchange for sex. While hesitant at first, she is soon engulfed in a torrid romance, which calls into question everything she thought she knew about herself. Based on the best-selling novel by Sara Mesa, acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Isabel Coixet creates a complex feminist drama featuring a bristling performance by Laia. Nominated for seven awards at the 2024 Goyas, including Best Film, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. DIR/SCR Isabel Coixet; SCR Laura Ferrero, based on the novel by Sara Mesa; PROD Marisa Fernández Armenteros, Sandra Hermida. Spain, 2023, color, 129 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
