RAMONA (2023)

Feeling unprepared to play the role of Ramona, a 15-year-old pregnant girl living on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, affluent actress Camila Santana decides to sit down with pregnant teens all over the Dominican Republic to hear their stories. What originally began as a fiction film morphs into a hybrid narrative-documentary where the subjects’ own ideas on how Ramona should act soon influence the production of the film itself, taking it into new, unchartered territory. In RAMONA, director Victoria Linares Villegas (IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY) grapples with the notion of authenticity in storytelling through a work that blends genres and blurs the line between reality and fiction. Official Selection, 2023 Berlin and True/False film festivals. DIR/SCR Victoria Linares Villegas; SCR Diego Cepeda; PROD Pedro García, Jordi Gassó, Rafael Llaneza. Dominican Republic, 2023, color, 82 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
