THE SHADOW OF THE SUN
[LA SOMBRA DEL SOL]
Set in the Venezuelan city of Acarigua, THE SHADOW OF THE SUN is the heart-tugging tale of two impoverished brothers who long for a better life. Leo, a factory worker, slaves away day after day for pennies while Alex, his deaf and closeted younger brother, endures malicious taunting from his peers. When they learn of a music contest with a cash prize that could lift them out of poverty, Alex makes a proposal: he'll write the song if Leo, gifted with a beautiful voice, sings it. Reluctant at first to use his musical abilities, Leo takes a leap of faith and gets a literal band together to attempt to win the contest — and change the brother's lives forever. Director, writer and producer Miguel Angel Ferrer's film is an inspirational tale about accepting others and following big dreams that features a moving performance from first-time actor Anyelo Lopez as Alex. DIR/SCR/PROD Miguel Angel Ferrer; SCR Guillermo de la Rosa; PROD Álvar Carretero de la Fuente, Maritza Carbajal, Maylen Calienes. Venezuela/U.S., 2023, color, 98 min.
