Post-screening reception sponsored by the Embassy of Panama on Sept. 26

In her debut film, director and screenwriter Kattia G. Zúñiga weaves a delicate, understated tale of the many manifestations of desire and sisterhood. For their summer vacation, teenaged sisters Marina and Luna — who could not look or act less alike, as several characters observe — travel from Costa Rica to Panama to meet their long-estranged father. Over the course of their stay, the teens befriend a colorful crew of teenage skateboarders, fall in love, experiment with drugs, argue with each other and find joy in just vibing. Cinematographer Alejo Crisóstomo beautifully captures this journey set against the vibrant, tropical Panamanian landscape. Official Selection, 2023 SXSW Film Festival. DIR/SCR/PROD Kattia G. Zúñiga; PROD Alejo Crisóstomo, Isabella Gálvez Peñafiel, Said Isaac. Panama/Chile, 2023, color, 80 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
