BOBI WINE: THE PEOPLE'S PRESIDENT

Special Features: Q&A with filmmaker Moses Bwayo on March 17

First-time co-directors Christopher Sharp and journalist Moses Bwayo tell the story of Bobi Wine (born Robert Kyagulanyi), the musician-turned-politician leading the opposition to the ruthless, 35-year regime in Uganda. A straightforward portrait turns into an astonishing record of an on-the-ground fight for democracy when Wine runs for president in 2021, using his music to denounce the dictatorial regime and support his life mission to defend the oppressed and the voiceless people of Uganda. Withstanding arrests, torture and violence from the government, Wine and his wife Barbie risk their own lives and the lives of their children to lead their country toward freedom. A brave exposition of an authoritarian government that highlights the power of documentary journalism, this award-winning documentary gripped audiences at Venice and Telluride Film Festivals last year. (Note adapted from Hamptons International Film Festival.) Winner, Audience Award, Best Documentary Feature, 2022 Hamptons International Film Festival. Official Selection, 2022 Venice, Telluride and London film festivals and International Documentary Festival Amsterdam. DIR/SCR/PROD Christopher Sharp; DIR/SCR Moses Bwayo; PROD John Battsek. UK/Uganda/U.S., 2022, color, 121 min. In English and Luganda with English subtitles. NOT RATED
