SPARROW, THE (2022)
Special Features: East Coast Premiere. Q&A with director Michael Kinirons and producer Alicia Ní Ghráinne
Winner of the Best Irish First Feature award at the 2022 Galway Film Fleadh, Michael Kinirons' powerful feature debut is a coming-of-age tale about guilt and grief set in a remote fishing village in West Cork. When wild teen Kevin Coyle (newcomer Ollie West) is involved in a tragic accident, he does something seemingly unforgivable: he keeps the tragedy a secret. As the consequences of his lie unfold before his eyes, Kevin watches in horror and silence, confessing the truth only to the pet sparrow he keeps locked in his room. As events inevitably escalate out of his control, Kevin is forced to confront the truth in the most dramatic of fashions. Finally, Kevin must look to his domineering father (David O'Hara, BRAVEHEART, THE DEPARTED) to provide the thing he needs most: the possibility of forgiveness. (Note adapted from Bankside Films.)
