LOLA (2022)

Special Features: East Coast Premiere

In Irish filmmaker Andrew Legge's feature debut, a steampunk sci-fi mockumentary set in 1940s England, sisters Thom (Emma Appleton, THE WITCHER) and Mars (Stefanie Martini, PRIME SUSPECT 1973) have built a machine, LOLA, that can intercept radio and TV broadcasts from the future. This allows them to listen to iconic music before it has been made, place bets knowing what the outcome will be and embrace their inner punks well before the movement comes into existence. But with the World War II escalating, the sisters decide to use the machine for good to intercept information that could help with military intelligence. The machine initially proves to be a huge success, rapidly twisting the fortunes of the war against the Nazis. While Thom becomes intoxicated by LOLA, Mars begins to realize the terrible consequences of its power. As their relationship falls apart, Thom makes a fatal error with her machine that leads to a nightmarish outcome. Can the sisters' love for each other save the world they've lost? (Note adapted from Bankside Films.) Official Selection, 2022 Locarno and Edinburgh film festivals. DIR/SCR Andrew Legge; SCR Angeli Macfarlane; PROD Alan Maher, John Wallace.
