22nd Annual Animation Show of Shows
After a two-year COVID hiatus, the Animation Show of Shows returns to theaters. This 22nd edition comprises 10 films — nine recent, along with one restored classic — which deal with both the anxieties and hopes of a world faced with a seemingly endless series of existential crises. All are inventive, with tones ranging from the whimsical to the profound, and display a variety of techniques, including stop-motion, hand-drawn and computer-aided.
Curated and produced by Ron Diamond, the program includes Patrick Smith and Kaori Ishida's BEYOND NOH, Geoffroy de Crecy's EMPTY PLACES, Gil Alkabetz's BESEDER [GOOD AND BETTER], Jeanne Apergis' ZOIZOGLYPHE, Piotr Milczarek's RAIN [DESCZ], Maja Gehrig's AVERAGE HAPPINESS, Jo Meuris' AURORA, Gísli Darri Halldórsson's YES-PEOPLE, Dina Velikovskaya's TIES and a restored 4K digital remaster by the Academy Film Archive of Frédéric Back's classic 1987 Oscar® winner THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES.
