AXIOM (2022)
Special Features: U.S. Premiere
Eloquent Vienna museum guard Julius (Moritz von Treuenfels) befriends new hire Erik (Thomas Schubert) and invites him to join his group of friends that weekend for a sailing trip on Julius' aristocratic family's sailboat. But a number of small mishaps conspire to delay their plans, which are finally derailed entirely after Julius experiences an epileptic seizure. Discharged from the hospital, Julius returns to a mother and home that in no way match his previous description, even as other discrepancies in his many stories continue to accumulate. Jöns Jönsson's meticulously observed, slow-burn psychodrama features a standout performance by von Treuenfels as a man whose protean penchant for self-invention goes to extremes. "This is a fascinatingly perceptive film about casual falsehoods, compulsive fakery and crumbling facades…Maybe the only people in the world not to suffer from imposter syndrome are the actual imposters." – Variety. Official Selection, 2022 Berlin and Edinburgh film festivals. DIR/SCR Jöns Jönsson; PROD Amir Hamz, Christian Springer, Fahri Yardim. Germany, 2022, color, 112 min. In German with English subtitles.
