[COMPETENCIA OFICIAL]
Spanish powerhouses Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas finally headline a film together — and it was worth the wait! Cruz plays a brilliant auteur recruited by an aging billionaire who dreams of leaving a great cinematic work as his legacy. She casts as her leads a Hollywood heartthrob (Banderas) and a revered stage actor (Oscar Martínez, WILD TALES) who despise one another outright. Cruz expects this tension to fuel the men's creative energies and initiates a series of acting challenges that escalate in their absurdity. Just what kind of film are they making? In their latest work, co-directors Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (THE DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN, THE MAN NEXT DOOR) pull off a deft balancing act, taking hilarious jabs at the world of filmmaking while also celebrating its craft, giving plenty of room to the cast to have great fun with their roles. Official Selection, 2021 Venice and Toronto film festivals. DIR/SCR Mariano Cohn, Gastón Duprat; SCR Andrés Duprat; PROD Jaume Roures. Spain, 2021, color, 114 min. In Spanish with English subtitles.
