MISS LULU BETT

MISS LULU BETT

Special Features: Silent with live musical accompaniment by Andrew Simpson

Based on Zona Gale's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, MISS LULU BETT is a key feminist work from its era. Lulu Bett (Lois Wilson) lives in the home of her half-sister Ina (Mabel Van Buren), where her brother-in-law Dwight Deacon (Theodore Roberts) treats her worse than a servant. Desperate to escape her plight, she marries Dwight's ne'er-do-well brother Ninian (Clarence Burton), but later returns after Ninian is exposed as a bigamist. Dejected and even worse off than before, she confides her tale of woe to the local schoolmaster Neil Cornish (Milton Sills), who encourages her to stand tall in the face of her unfair treatment, while at the same time falling in love with her. DIR William C. de Mille; SCR Clara Beranger, from the novel and play by Zona Gale; PROD Adolph Zukor. U.S., 1921, b&w, 71 min. Silent with English intertitles. NOT RATED
