SOULFUL STEPS: A SOUL LINE DANCE JOURNEY WITH J&J

Q&A with director Jamie Burton-Oare

James and Jackie Rice take us on a journey of how they fell in love with soul line dancing, through its history to their creation of CaliJam, the first and biggest soul line dance convention on the West Coast. SOULFUL STEPS sheds light on this dance style's history, evolution and trajectory through the lens of the husband-and-wife team whose dance serves as the foundation of their romance. The birth of this dance style is largely due to the soulful music used as the backdrop for the choreography. The internet has helped the growth of the dance style's recent explosion; now soul line dancers across the world can share new variations through sites like YouTube and Vimeo. SOULFUL STEPS revisits the Rices' union and explores their lives, and the lives of other soul line dancers and fellow teachers. This dynamic duo exemplifies love, sexiness, kindness, joy and togetherness in an age where everyone is seeking the answer to a successful relationship. They use dance to teach the world to love.
