SUPERMAN (1978)

45th Anniversary

“You'll believe a man can fly.” THE OMEN director Richard Donner proved to have the right sensibility to usher the Man of Steel from the pages of comic books into the world of cinema. Despite production challenges and producer battles, the film was a hit thanks to the inspired casting of Christopher Reeve as Superman, state-of-the-art and judiciously deployed special effects and the celebrated, soaring score by John Williams. The supporting cast includes Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, Marlon Brando as Superman's father Jor-El, Jackie Cooper as The Daily Planet editor Perry White and Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. DIR Richard Donner; SCR Mario Puzo, David Newman, Leslie Newman, Robert Benton, based on characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster; PROD Pierre Spengler. U.S./UK, 1978, color, 143 min.
