Wedding bells are ringing, and well-to-do socialite Tracy Lord (Grace Kelly) is set to marry the respectable George Kittredge (John Lund). But her chance at living happily ever after is thwarted by her ex-husband, the jazz musician C. K. Dexter Haven (Bing Crosby), who is still holding out hope they might end up together. To win her hand, he will have to compete with hot-shot reporter Mike Connor (Frank Sinatra), who is in town covering the wedding and strikes up his own friendship with the bride-to-be.
