MEXICO 86

Special Features: U.S. Premiere | Special Presentation

After her husband's brutal murder, Guatemalan activist Maria (Academy Award®–nominee Bérénice Bejo) leaves her infant son in the arms of her mother and flees to Mexico for her safety. Ten years later, she is living in refuge in Mexico City, still part of an active rebel cell. Undercover as a copy editor for a news magazine, she turns over to her colleague a terrifying book documenting the atrocious murders of Guatemalan citizens at the hands of the military dictatorship. But when her son is forced to move back into her care, she'll have to decide if she's willing to risk his life for her ideals. Filmmaker César Díaz (OUR MOTHERS) was inspired by his own mother's guerrilla activities to make this scorching political thriller. Official Selection, 2024 Locarno Film Festival. DIR/SCR César Díaz; PROD Anne-Laure Guégan, Delphine Schmit, Géraldine Sprimont. Belgium/France, 2024, color, 93 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
