NOPE
Writer/director Jordan Peele's third feature is a bona-fide summer blockbuster that doubles as a complex critique of the violence, risk and opportunism inherent in the showbiz machine. Following their father's shocking death, Hollywood animal wrangler OJ (Daniel Kaluuya) and his sister Emerald (Keke Palmer) observe unexplained phenomena on their vast southern California ranch that leads them down an obsessive rabbit hole as they attempt to capture the mystery on camera. Along with Jupe (Steven Yuen), a former child star-turned-theme park ringmaster who lives down the road, the siblings' efforts to chase the spectacle soon bring terrifying consequences and unimaginable horror. NOPE is equal parts social thriller, Western and monster flick — with an unearthly creature design that would make Hideaki Anno (NEON GENESIS EVANGELION) proud.
