1982, Soviet Estonia. Awkward preteen Andres lives with his grandparents in a suffocatingly small rural town. His mother is off living in Sweden and Andres' only means of communication with her is via visions of the visage of ABBA's Agnetha Fältskog, who bears more than a passing resemblance to her. Bullied at school and pestered by his cantankerous grandfather, Andres seeks refuge on frozen Lake Tamula. There he can escape the doldrums by ice fishing with his only friends, the much older Kolla and ex-con Valter.
