ANATOMY OF A FALL
For the past year, Sandra (Sandra Hüller), her husband Samuel (Samuel Theis) and their 11-year-old son Daniel have lived a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead in the snow below their chalet, the police question whether he was murdered or committed suicide. Samuel's suspicious death is presumed murder, and Sandra becomes the main suspect. What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel's death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of Sandra and Samuel's conflicted relationship. This thrilling courtroom drama by French director Justine Triet (SIBYL) is an incisive examination of perspective and biases with impeccable pacing thanks to expert editing by Laurent Sénéchal. ANATOMY OF A FALL won both the Palme d'Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival — becoming the third film directed by a woman to win the prestigious award — and the Palm Dog, given to canine thespian Messi, whose stupendous performance in the film is rivaled only by Hüller's.
