Swedish documentarians Maria Loohufvud and Love Martinsen's CALENDAR GIRLS is an acclaimed profile of a dance troupe for women over 60 based in southwest Florida. Its members find joy, sisterhood and camaraderie in their troupe community while pursuing their passion for dance and self-expression. Interviews with the dancers reveal the often-difficult balancing act they must maintain between their family duties and this personal pursuit, of which their family members' opinions range from mere toleration to outright scorn and mockery. Undaunted, these troupers hang tough in the face of naysayers, family emergencies and health crises, expressing themselves boldly whether in conversation or interpretive dance choreography.
