Albert Finney stars as Ebenezer Scrooge in this musical version featuring a score, songs and screenplay by Leslie Bricusse (1971's WILLY WONKA & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) and directed by Ronald Neame. Finney gives a masterful performance in the lead, crankily speak-singing Bricusse's wicked number "I Hate People" before seeing the light and shifting to the uplifting "I'll Begin Again" and the ebullient "I Like Life." The film earned Oscar® nominations for Art Direction, Costume Design, Score and the song "Thank You Very Much." Alec Guinness appears as Jacob Marley, along with Edith Evans and Kenneth More as the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present. DIR Ronald Neame; SCR Leslie Bricusse, from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens; PROD Robert H. Solo. UK, 1970, color, 113 min. RATED G
