GIANT (1956)
Special Features: 4K Restoration
Director George Stevens' 1956 epic recounts the battle between old money cattle ranchers and new money oil barons over a period of 30 years, from the 1920s to the 1950s. Lead performances by Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor (as rancher couple Bick and Leslie Benedict) are memorable, but it's James Dean (as ranch hand-turned-oilman Jett) who steals the show. Killed in a car crash before the film's release, Dean garnered a posthumous nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards®. For his work on the film, Stevens won Best Director, notably his only win out of nine nominations. This restoration, which presents the film like never before, was funded in part by The Film Foundation and overseen by Steven Spielberg and George Stevens, Jr. DIR/PROD George Stevens; SCR Fred Guiol, Ivan Moffat, from the novel by Edna Ferber; PROD Henry Ginsberg.
