MASK (1985)
Peter Bogdanovich revived his career with this beloved '80s tearjerker starring Eric Stoltz (under an Academy Award®-winning amount of makeup) as Rocky Dennis, a smart and resilient teen living with a rare facial deformity. His fierce mother Rusty (Cher, in a role that won her the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival) and her biker boyfriend (Sam Elliott) are determined to give Rocky a normal life, fighting for him to attend public school. Having exceeded the life expectancy predicted by doctors, he makes the most of his teenage years, falling in love with a blind girl (Laura Dern) at summer camp and making plans to motorcycle across Europe.
