LAST TOUR, THE (2021)

Special Features: Q&A with director Douglas Pedro Sánchez, producer Nadia Barbarossa and executive producer Rosana Roig, moderated by Jim Byers, host of WPFW 89.3's THE LATIN FLAVOR

[LA ÚLTIMA GIRA]
In this colorful, visually stunning portrait of legendary Puerto Rican singer Daniel Santos (Ektor Rivera), the retired musician sets out on one more adventure. A Bolero and Guaracha singing idol, Santos was one of Caribbean music's most colorful and enigmatic figures. With his bohemian lifestyle, extraordinary talent and personality, he tore through Latin America — where he was once known as El Jefe — in the 1950s. He did everything in a big way and his love affairs, recordings, musical compositions and jail nights for bar brawls all numbered in the hundreds. THE LAST TOUR finds him in the 1980s, retired from show business and living in Ocala, Florida, where he operates a small bodega-type store and is writing a memoir. The remembrance of past glories pushes him to embark on one last hurrah: a concert tour where he hopes to demonstrate his relevance beyond a mere nostalgia act. (Note adapted from the New York Latino Film Festival.) Winner, Best International Feature, 2021 New York Latino Film Festival. DIR/SCR Douglas Pedro Sánchez; PROD Nadia Barbarossa. Puerto Rico, 2021, color, 89 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
