Winner of the Grand Jury and FIPRESCI prizes at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival and based on the novel by Polish sci-fi author Stanislaw Lem, SOLARIS is a cerebral, emotive space odyssey about memory, grief and love. When cosmonaut/psychologist Kris Kelvin (Donatas Banionis) is sent to investigate the mysterious death of a doctor onboard a space station orbiting the planet Solaris, he initially believes the remaining crew to have lost their minds. Then, he begins to experience strange apparitions of his own, encountering his seven-years-dead wife (Natalya Bondarchuk) and gradually losing sight of the line between reality and the darkest recesses of his inner psyche.
