TSUGUA DIARIES, THE
[DIÁRIOS DE OTSOGA]
Three 20-something housemates (Carloto Cotta, Crista Alfaiate and João Nunes Monteiro) spend their COVID lockdown in the idyllic Portuguese countryside, planning dance parties, swimming in the pool and keeping busy with household projects. Told in reverse order in diary-like entries, this delightful cinematic puzzle reveals its meta origins as distinctions between film and filmmakers, past and present, and real and scripted are joyfully unveiled. Shot in 16mm, this sun-dappled tale is a refreshing creative experiment from husband-and-wife filmmaking duo Maureen Fazendeiro (BLACK SUN, MOTU MAEVA) and Miguel Gomes (ARABIAN NIGHTS, TABU). Official Selection, 2021 Cannes, Toronto and New York film festivals. DIR/SCR Maureen Fazendeiro, Miguel Gomes; SCR Mariana Ricardo; PROD Sandro Aguilar, João Miller Guerra, Filipa Reis, Luís Urbano. Portugal, 2021, color, 102 min. In Portuguese with English subtitles. NOT RATED
