Winner of this year's SXSW Audience Award, this tender and funny animated feature is based on the autobiographical graphic novel by Colombian-Ecuadorian cartoonist Power Paola about a young woman's experiences — from conception to young adulthood — as she fumbles her way through dysfunctional family life, friendships, new schools and awkward romances. Scrappy DIY black-and-white animation and a lo-fi Latin indie score lend a lovingly idiosyncratic charm to a film that brings forth a unique and utterly refreshing female point of view. (Note adapted from Seattle International Film Festival.) Winner, Audience Award, 2018 SXSW Film Festival; Official Selection, 2018 Berlin, Seattle, New Zealand, Buenos Aires, Annecy and Galway film festivals. DIR/PROD Santiago Caicedo; SCR Enrique Lozano, from the graphic novel by Power Paola. Colombia/Ecuador, 2017, color, 97 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
