In Laura Mora Ortega's intensely beautiful, semi-autobiographical debut, 22-year-old Paula embarks on a revenge mission after witnessing the murder of her father. When Paula recognizes her father's killer at a nightclub, he turns out to be a young man from the slums named Jesus. Feigning romantic interest, Paula vengefully seeks out Jesus. But as they spend time together, Paula begins to lose her resolve. Close, realistic camera work allows us to enter Paula's anxious and confused frame of mind as she grapples with her difficult choice. (Note adapted from Toronto International Film Festival.)
