UKAMAU Y KÉ

Abraham Bojórquez — Ukamau y Ké — pioneered hip-hop in the Aymara language, shaking up early 21st-century Latin American society with his rebellious lyrics. On the same day he finished recording his second record, at the peak of his career, he suffered an unceremonious and violent death. Years later, his friend, Ecuadorian rapper and documentarian Andrés Ramírez, returns to Bolivia to uncover the reasons for his untimely demise and seek his spirit. In this surreal journey, Ukamau y Ké is revived through archival footage and testimonials, and in dreams. Official Selection, 2018 Cine Las Americas International Film Festival. DIR/SCR/PROD Andrés Ramírez; SCR Xiana Yago, Miko Meloni; PROD Esteban Coloma, Amanda Robalino, Fabián Bolivar. Bolivia/Ecuador, 2017, color, 86 min. In Spanish and Aymara with English subtitles.
