In 1982, Argentina and the UK fought the Malvinas/Falklands War, a bloody conflict that ended in a British victory and took nearly 1,000 lives. THEATRE OF WAR follows six veterans — three British, three Argentinean — as they come together to make a film almost 35 years after hostilities ended. They spend months together discussing their war memories and then rehearsing their re-enactment. Lola Arias' genre-bending documentary feels both authentic and artificial as it playfully switches between reality and fiction, observing as the former soldiers transform into actors. Winner, C.I.C.A.E. Award, 2018 Berlin International Film Festival; Official Selection, 2018 SXSW, CPH:DOX and Jerusalem film festivals. DIR/SCR Lola Arias; PROD Alejandra Grinschpun, Gema Juárez Allen. Argentina/Spain/Germany, 2018, color, 81 min. In English and Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
