Based on the true story of the 1983 mass break-out of 38 IRA prisoners from the then-newly built HM Prison Maze in Northern Ireland, MAZE follows the relationship between two men on opposite sides of the prison bars. Inmate Larry Marley (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, THE CURED, THE SECRET SCRIPTURE) is the chief architect of the escape and he's up against the most state-of-the-art and secure prison in the whole of Europe — a prison within a prison. In scheming his way toward achieving this impossible jailbreak, Larry must win the trust of world-weary prison guard Gordon Close (Barry Ward, THE FALL, JIMMY'S HALL), and the pair embark on a series of cautious, chess-like moves. Director Stephen Burke (HAPPY EVER AFTERS) seamlessly blends factual context with genre filmmaking to craft a tightly-wound thriller with heart and historical significance.
