ZOO (2017)

Q&A with director Colin McIvor, plus post-screening reception sponsored by the Northern Ireland Bureau

Belfast, 1941. Twelve-year-old Tom's (Art Parkinson, GAME OF THRONES) zookeeper father is enlisted in the army, leaving behind his family and the newest member of the zoo, baby elephant Buster. When German air raids threaten the safety of the zoo animals, Tom and his gang of misfit friends set out to rescue Buster with the help of an eccentric animal lover (Penelope Wilton, DOWNTON ABBEY, THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL). Inspired by true events, Irish writer-director Colin McIvor (CUP CAKE) delivers an uplifting tale of dogged bravery. With Toby Jones (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY) and Ian McElhinney (ROGUE ONE). (Note adapted from Chicago International Film Festival.) DIR/SCR Colin McIvor; PROD Katy Jackson, Jacqueline Kerrin, John Leslie, Thomas Vencelides, Dominic Wright. Ireland/UK, 2017, color, 97 min.
