THE HOODLUM PRIEST (1961)
Don Murray co-wrote, produced and starred in this portrayal of the life of Father Charles Dismas Clark, a Jesuit priest in St. Louis who ministered to juvenile delinquents and ex-convicts. His efforts to guide young offender Billy Lee Jackson (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY's Keir Dullea, in his feature film debut) onto the straight and narrow bring both triumph and sorrow in this gripping, gritty drama directed by Irvin Kershner (STAR WARS: EPISODE V – THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) and shot by legendary cinematographer Haskell Wexler on location on the streets of St. Louis. DIR Irvin Kershner; SCR Joseph Landon; SCR/PROD Don Murray; PROD Walter Wood. U.S., 1961, b&w, 101 min. NOT RATED
