When rebellious teen Tano (Andrew Bargsted, YOU'LL NEVER BE ALONE) is sent from Santiago to southern Chile to live with his estranged father, he meets Cheo (Eliseo Fernández, OUT), a shy boy perpetually bullied for his indigenous origins. As the two outsiders bond over their troubles, the strange death of a Mapuche leader unleashes a spree of violence in the area, forcing the pair to unite further and become involved in a struggle that will transform them both. Claudia Huaiquimilla's extraordinary debut is a timely reflection of the ongoing Mapuche conflict, and the violent daily lives of a community threatened by corporations and government evictions. Grand Prix, 2016 Valdivia Film Festival; Official Selection, 2016 Guadalajara Film Festival, 2017 Palm Springs and Seattle film festivals. DIR/SCR Claudia Huaiquimilla; SCR/PROD Pablo Greene; PROD Rebeca Gutiérrez Campos, Eduardo Villalobos. Chile, 2016, color, 89 min. In Spanish and Mapudungun with English subtitles. NOT RATED
