In 1973, 22-year-old Olga Hepnarová drove down a Prague sidewalk, killing eight and injuring a dozen more. Hospitalized as a teen following a suicide attempt, she had suffered a troubled family life and intolerance over her homosexual leanings. In a letter she mailed to newspapers prior to committing the mass murder, Hepnarová cataloged a lifetime of mistreatment and described herself as "a wreck, ruined by people…I choose TO PAY BACK MY HATERS." Michalina Olszanska gives a powerful performance as the haunted Hepnarová in this sober, probing examination of a square peg relentlessly hammered by a repressive society. Official Selection, 2016 Berlin, Guadalajara, Gdynia, New Horizons and Karlovy Vary film festivals. DIR/SCR/PROD Petr Kazda, Tomás Weinreb; PROD Vojtech Fric. Czech Republic/Poland/Slovakia/France, 2016, b&w, 105 min, DCP. In Czech with English subtitles. NOT RATED
