2015 Oscar® Selection, Peru
Presented in partnership with the Washington Office on Latin America
Fidel leads a forensic team tasked with exhuming the remains of people who “disappeared” some 25 years earlier during the years of political violence in Peru. From a recent discovery of nine bodies, one is unidentifiable, the only clue to his past life a photo of a woman found pinned to his body. A lonely widow is convinced it is her late husband, but the data just don’t add up. The mystery deepens as the stresses of the job bear down on the conflicted Fidel. Filmmaker Héctor Gálvez won the Best Director Award at the Cartagena Film Festival for this powerful, nuanced look at a country coming to terms with its past. Official Selection, 2014 Rome Film Festival; 2015 Rotterdam, San Francisco, Palm Springs, Seattle Film Festivals.
