The vengeful spirits of those killed in the Pacific by the Imperial Japanese Army possess Godzilla and lay waste to the island nation for denying its wartime atrocities. This 2001 outing for the King of the Monsters ignored the continuity of the previous films and instead served as a direct sequel to the 1954 original.
