MISS SADIE THOMPSON in 3-D
Previously adapted into films starring Gloria Swanson and Joan Crawford, W. Somerset Maugham's story about a prostitute detained in an exotic Pacific setting who stirs up problematic passions among the local menfolk is reimagined as a musical for Rita Hayworth, with winning results. Aldo Ray plays the Marine sergeant smitten with Sadie; José Ferrer plays the devout missionary man who preaches rectitude but is driven mad by his own conflicting desires. Look for a young Charles Bronson (still using his given name, Buchinsky) in the supporting cast of enlisted men. DIR Curtis Bernhardt; SCR Harry Kleiner, based on the story "Miss Thompson" by W. Somerset Maugham; PROD Jerry Wald. U.S., 1953, color, 91 min. NOT RATED
Also part of Columbia Pictures Centennial Retro.
