MIÚCHA, THE VOICE OF BOSSA NOVA

Heloísa Maria Buarque de Hollanda, better known by her stage name Miúcha, was at the center of the Brazilian Bossa Nova music scene but often overlooked in favor of its male stars, her husband João Gilberto among them. Through archival recordings and material, Miúcha's story is brought to the forefront at last in Liliane Mutti and Daniel Zarvos' documentary. Chronicling the highs and lows of Miúcha's artistic career and her turbulent marriage to Gilberto, the film provides a feminist perspective on Bossa Nova from one of its most vital voices. DIR/SCR Liliane Mutti; DIR/PROD Daniel Zarvos; PROD Mostafiz ShahMohammed, Marta Sánchez. Brazil/France/U.S., 2022, color, 98 min. In Portuguese with English subtitles. NOT RATED
