NICKELODEON - Director's Cut

Peter Bogdanovich drew on his love of the early days of Hollywood and his own interviews with silent film directors Raoul Walsh and Allan Dwan to craft this affectionate showbiz comedy set in the 1910s. Ryan O'Neal, reuniting with Bogdanovich after PAPER MOON, stars as Leo Harrigan, an attorney hired to stop unauthorized film production alongside huckster Buck Greenway (a game Burt Reynolds). The two stumble up the ladder as Leo becomes a director and Buck becomes a reluctant leading man. But a rivalry is born when they both fall for the alluring ingenue Kathleen Cooke (Jane Hitchcock). Tatum O'Neal, Stella Stevens, Harry Carey, Jr., Brian Keith and John Ritter also star. The film will screen in Bogdanovich's preferred black-and-white Director's Cut. DIR/SCR Peter Bogdanovich; SCR W. D. Richter; PROD Robert Chartoff, Frank Marshall, Irwin Winkler. UK/U.S., 1976, b&w, 129 min. RATED PG
