WEST SIDE STORY tells a classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. Steven Spielberg's screen adaptation of the beloved stage musical, famous for Jerome Robbins' choreography, Leonard Bernstein's music and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics, introduces a new generation to WEST SIDE STORY's powerful tale of forbidden love caught up in the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.
