SILENT LAND

[CICHA ZIEMIA]
A bourgeois Polish couple (Dobromir Dymecki and Agnieszka Żulewska) have rented a luxurious villa on the Italian seaside for a relaxing holiday. But when they arrive at their destination, they discover the swimming pool is empty. In response to their complaint, the owner sends a migrant worker to fix the situation. After a freak accident occurs, the police take statements from the vacationing couple, but even allowing for some details being lost in translation, their stories don't quite add up. Filmmaker Aga Woszczyńska's precisely observed portrait of marital bonds tested under the strain of a criminal investigation makes for a suspense-filled feature debut, and announces an exciting new voice in European cinema. Official Selection, 2021 Toronto and Chicago film festivals. DIR/SCR Aga Woszczyńska; SCR Piotr Litwin; PROD Agnieszka Wasiak, Giovanni Pompili. Poland/Czech Republic/Italy, 2021, color, 113 min. In English, Polish, French and Italian with English subtitles. NOT RATED
