Denzel Washington plays jazz trumpeter Bleek Gilliam, who's juggling a busy professional life, as the leader of a quintet with some internal tensions but a lot of potential, and private life, with two girlfriends: student Indigo (Joie Lee) and singer Clarke (Cynda Williams). Spike Lee's father Bill, a veteran jazz musician, composed the film's score, and the excellent supporting cast includes Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John Turturro, Samuel L.
