Count Gore presents INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978)
Join us for some creepy good fun when local TV legend Count Gore De Vol (Dick Dyszel) returns to present another cult favorite in the spirit of the original CREATURE FEATURE broadcasts, including vintage clips from the Count's vault and interactive fun and games.
Director Philip Kaufman (THE WANDERERS), writer W. D. Richter (BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA) and cinematographer Michael Chapman (RAGING BULL) transpose the Red Scare paranoia of Don Siegel’s sci-fi classic to 1970s San Francisco, where urban paranoia, consumerist conformity and government mistrust are rampant. A parasitic alien life force flees its dying planet and stakes a claim on Earth, where it proceeds to mutate into exact replicas of every person it touches — but these “pod people” lack the very emotions that make humans human. Among those caught up in this extraterrestrial invasion are Brooke Adams, Donald Sutherland (with a strong performance all around, but especially in his horrifying final scene), Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright. Though contemporary reactions were lukewarm, this gritty sci-fi parable has endured as a stalwart of the genre whose heavy themes reverberate across the decades. DIR Philip Kaufman; W. D. Richter, from the novel “The Body Snatchers” by Jack Finney; PROD Robert H. Solo. U.S., 1978, color, 115 min. RATED PG
