aka LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE aka DON'T OPEN THE WINDOW
[NO PROFANAR EL SUEÑO DE LOS MUERTOS]
If WITHNAIL AND I had a zombie-infested prequel, this would be it. The first (perhaps only) zombie film set in England's Lake District, Jorge Grau's cult classic is a favorite of Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD), which combines the undead with small-town anxiety, beautiful countryside vistas and an acute sense of impending societal and environmental doom. When two reluctant traveling companions, George (Ray Lovelock, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF) and Edna (Cristina Galbó, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE?), come across a sleepy English town full of the living dead, they realize that this zombie population is behind a wave of unsolved murders plaguing the countryside. But jaded police detective (Arthur Kennedy, FANTASTIC VOYAGE, SOME CAME RUNNING) is having none of it, believing instead that the two young transients are the murderers. On the run from both the law and the undead, George and Edna seek to find the cause of the cadaver uprising, fighting both to prove their innocence and for their very survival. DIR Jorge Grau; SCR Sandro Continenza, Marcello Coscia; PROD Edmondo Amati. Spain/Italy, 1974, color, 93 min. In English. RATED R
