ISLAND OF THE HUNGRY GHOSTS

Christmas Island: just off the coast of Indonesia in the Indian Ocean, 50 million red crabs make their ancient annual voyage from the jungle to the ocean's edge. In that same seemingly idyllic jungle, thousands of asylum seekers are detained indefinitely in a high-security facility. Poh Lin Lee, a trauma counselor living on the island, bears witness to the decline of those being detained. This hybrid documentary moves between the natural migration of the crabs and the chaotic and tragic migration of the humans, both in constant metamorphoses due to unseen forces. DIR/SCR/PROD Gabrielle Brady; PROD Samm Haillay, Alex Kelly, Alexander Wadouh. Germany/UK/Australia, 2018, color, 98 min. In English, Persian, French and Mandarin with English subtitles. NOT RATED
