OUT OF SIGHT (1998)
Career bank robber Jack Foley (George Clooney) breaks out of jail along with his pal Buddy (Ving Rhames), briefly kidnapping federal marshal Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez) in the process. Now at large in Detroit and planning a new heist, Sisco has extra motivation to bring them in. Adapted from the crime caper by Elmore Leonard, OUT OF SIGHT was the first of Soderbergh's winning collaborations with Clooney, and rehabilitated the director's reputation after several misfires followed his celebrated debut, SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE; for Clooney, the film found the casting sweet spot for his post-ER film career. Don Cheadle, Catherine Keener, Albert Brooks, Dennis Farina, Luis Guzmán, Viola Davis and Steve Zahn round out the stellar cast. DIR Steven Soderbergh; SCR Scott Frank, from the novel by Elmore Leonard; PROD Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg, Stacey Sher. U.S., 1998, color, 123 min. RATED R
